Olivia Rodrigo is one of the newest creative artists from the Disney franchise to crossover into the music industry. With two songs released and an album scheduled for release in May, the young star has already broken records on her path to stardom. Olivia Isabel Rodrigo was born on February 20, 2003, in Temecula, California. When she was 6-years-old, Olivia started taking acting and singing classes. She made her first appearance in an Old Navy commercial in 2015.
The first time she got to shine was on the television show An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success, where Olivia played the lead character of Grace Thomas. The show created a buzz that helped to land her next role as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark. The show focuses on young teenagers that become popular using songs and videos on a social media platform. The silliness of the characters brought a fan base to all the stars of the show. Olivia played the main role from 2016 to 2019. Olivia’s next appearance was on the TV show New Girl in 2017, where she played the character Terrinea. Even though it was a cameo, the opportunity gave Olivia another avenue for fans to connect with her.

In early 2019, she was casted in the show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as Nini Salazar-Roberts. Based on a real high school, the series follows a group of students who are staging a musical for the school. Olivia worked on several songs for the show’s soundtrack. She wrote the songs “All I Want” and “Out of the Old” and for the songs, “I Think I Kinda, You Know” and “Just for a Moment” Olivia teamed with co-star Joshua Bassett. She also co-wrote the song “Wondering” with Julia Lester. The series has been a success thus far with high-quality content for both children and adults.
Olivia announced that she signed with Interscope Records and Geffen Records in 2020. On January 8, 2021, Olivia Rodrigo released her first single “Drivers License.” The heart-wrenching song is fueled by the emotional rifts of a recently finished relationship. Within a week, the song was streamed close to 20 million times on the platform Spotify. It made it the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 1 in the US and several countries. To date, the video has over 185 million views on YouTube. On April 1, Olivia released her second single, “Déjà vu.” The song features Olivia’s vocals in the front, keeping listeners stuck to the story. Singing of the striking similarities between dating the new girl versus the ex-girlfriend. The track is heartfelt, almost embarrassing to reflect on, but the message is clear for listeners to hear.
Olivia Rodrigo is new to the music industry but in her brief time she’s shown a high amount of dedication and passion to her craft. Fans of Olivia can be sure to hear more from her soon as her debut album titled Sour is scheduled for a May 21st release. Until then, fans will learn of Olivia from her quirky years of aspiring to be a star musician. While it’s too soon to tell, Olivia Rodrigo is likely to be a name that will stick around for years to come.
