Tate McRae: The Canadian Dancer Turned Pop Star

Tate McRae is a Canadian dancer turned pop singer that is making a name for herself through emotional pop songs. Tate first gained the interests of people with her shining personality and dancing. After releasing a video of her singing an original song, Tate changed creative lanes and began focusing on her musical craft. Tate McRae was born on July 1, 2003 in Culgary, Canada. Tate’s mother was a dancer and shared that love with her. She began taking ballet classes when she was 6-years-old. By the time she was 10-years-old, Tate started achieving awards for her dancing abilities. Tate started a YouTube channel in 2011 and uploaded videos of herself dancing. The videos helped her to gain a crowd of people interested in her work.

In 2014 and 2015, she began taking on greater platforms to showcase her ability. Famous dance manufacturer Capezio made Tate a brand ambassador. Towards the end of 2015, Tate gained more recognition for her voice on the TV show Lalaloopsy. Tate made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2016. In the summer of 2016, she performed with Justin Bieber on his Purpose world tour. Tate then made her way to the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. Through her skills on the show, she made it to the third place on the final episode.

After shining on American television, the Canadian dancer decided to upload videos of songs that she wrote. While it was a new area for the creative, it wasn’t a new method of expressing. She uploaded the song “One Day” on her YouTube channel that went viral, scoring millions of views. The song became the first single from Tate McRae. For the rest of 2018, Tate released songs on a “Create with Tate” series. With increased traffic to her channel, YouTube highlighted Tate, which created even more interest in the young artist.

In August 2019, Tate signed to RCA Records and announced her EP All The Things I Never Said. The EP was released on January 24, 2020. Lead single “Tear Myself Apart”, was co-written by Billie Eilish and Finneas. “All My Friends Are Fake” is the second single from the EP. The song questions the nature of her friendships and the bad intentions that some people may have. Combined with “Tear Myself Apart”, the singles amassed millions of streams. “Stupid” is the third song from the EP and reflects on the emotions of a being into a person that causes her to do stupid things.

In April 2020, Tate released the single “You Broke Me First.” The song is about a person who has moved on from a relationship. The social media platform TikTok generated thousands of views that further propelled the song into larger music streaming platforms. Tate released “Vicious” featuring rapper Lil Mosey in June. The song reflects on someone who is empowered by the decisions that they’ve made with their ex. August saw the release of Tate’s next single, “Don’t Be Sad.” Fans first heard the song on a new YouTube video upload. The three singles are from Tate’s upcoming EP.

Fans throughout Canada, America, and other parts of the globe have connected with Tate McRae for her creative skills.
