Next Town Down is a modern day R&B boy band. They’ve gathered millions of fans across the world with their charismatic personality and multi-instrumental talents. Based out of Los Angeles, these five singers have grown to become an influential force in music. The five members in Next Town Down are Chris Louis, Terence Thomas, Tre’Von Water, Malik Knighten, and Leon Outlaw Junior.
Chris, Terence, and Tre’von met each other on Instagram. They were brought together through their interest in other artists like Boyz II Men, B2K, and Chris Brown. Once the three guys got together, they would hang out and make music in Atlanta. Becoming a music group felt like a natural move as more people asked them about it. These three friends found Leon on YouTube while he was playing in a Broadway play. The last member to join the group, Malik, was found on a voice blogging site through Instagram. They spent a year together before sharing their talents online.
Once the group came together, they gained fans from video uploads on the platform Musical.ly. After a while, the band began uploading videos of music covers on YouTube. To date, the band has over 25 million views on the video platform. Their chemistry, ability to connect, and skill level made them an instant attraction for thousands of subscribers. They have a lot of success on the streaming platform Spotify as well.
Next Town Down made a debut in 2017 with the single “Good Times’’. A short-film was released on YouTube the same day and gained over a million views in six months. “Man on the Loose” was the second single released that same year. The seriousness of the lyrics mixed with the upbeat rhythm drove even more fans to start paying attention to the up-and-coming R&B group.
Next Town Down eventually signed to RCA and they also began their first headline tour in September 2018. The following month, the band released their self-titled EP. Featuring six-tracks, The EP brought high production beats with a personable rhythm. When the band released their “Evolution of Boy bands” video on YouTube, it caused them to gain even more traction. Many other boy bands gave the group praise for their talent and visuals. The 8-minute song covers many songs from popular boy bands.
On October 11, 2019, the band released their next EP Juliet. The six-tracks brought a new level of talent into the group’s musical catalog. It featured popular artists such as 6LACK, Rich the Kid, and Calboy. The R&B group collaborated with artist 6LACK for the song, “Easy”. The single brought fans and lured them into the collective harmony of the members. Tracks on the EP showcase the members’ talents and dynamic as a united group.
With their fan base and influence of social media connections supporting them, Next Town Down has potential to go far in the music industry. The multitalented boy band represents a new level of R&B music. Drawing influence from past artists and adding their own creative spin to tracks makes them unique in the digital world.
