The up-and-coming R&B artist David Bowden aka Pink Sweat$ created a buzz in the music scene with his hit song “Honesty.” He’s also known for working with other artists such as Tierra Whack and Florida Georgia Line. Bowden was born on February 14, 1992 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
As a young kid, David grew up in the rough part of Philadelphia. After too many close calls, he moved to the suburbs. While attempting to meet more people, he sung in a talent show and realized he had a knack for music. After graduating high school, David didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life so he began to hang around music studios. He later got sick and was diagnosed with achalasia. This is a sickness that causes people to violently vomit constantly. After overcoming depression and receiving proper treatment, David gained perspective in his life and decided to pursue music.
Bowden started making music when he was 19. While working as a demo vocalist at Sound Stigma Studios, he fell in love with songwriting. David got the stage name Pink Sweat$ because he always wore pink sweatpants. Pink Sweat$ decided to work with music platform Indify to get discovered. Because of this, Human Re Sources found Pink Sweat$ and signed him to the label. This label has a distribution contract with Spotify, which contributed to Pink Sweat$ success and helped the artist rise quickly on the platform.

On July 12, 2018, Pink Sweat$ released the single “Honesty.” This soft, nearly acoustic ballad generated tens of millions of streams on Spotify. The song gained viral attention on music platforms and pushed Pink Sweat$ into the public eye. Later that month the artist released his second single “No Replacing You”.
Pink Sweat$ released his debut EP titled Volume 1 on November 2, 2018 under the Human Re Sources label. The six-tracks clock in under 15-minutes but provide a glimpse into the style of music Pink Sweat$ wants to work in. The tracks all have a similar soft acoustic feel, like the popular “Honesty.” The first two singles were on the EP as well as a third lead single, “Drama”. Pink Sweat$ was also featured on Thurmose’s “Man on Fire”. On March 28, 2019 Pink Sweat$ released a follow-up EP titled Volume 2. The second EP provided lead singles “I Know” and “Coke & Henny Pt. 1 and Pt. 2”.
The way that Pink Sweat$ uses rhythms and soft melodies helps him stand out more from artists that use sound to cover their voice. He believes it’s a great time for him to shine as the R&B industry moves away from trap/hip-hop influenced records. The evidence of this being that Pink Sweat$ has accumulated a massive fan base already. Pink Sweat$ intends to keep creating music that caters to an ever-growing population of listeners. Listeners should stay tuned as Pink Sweat$ continues to create R&B and soul songs, while exploring sweet rhythms using his melodic voice.
