Majid Jordan is a musician duo that started making music in 2011. The group is composed of members Jordan Ullman and Majid Al Maskati. Jordan was born on September 8, 1993 in Toronto, Ontario. Majid was born in Bahrain, a small country in the Persian Gulf, on October 22, 1990. His family relocated to England, where he spent most of his life. Later Majid moved to Toronto, Canada.
The guys met as students at the University of Toronto during Majid’s 21st birthday party. Shortly afterward the guys got together and started creating music. Their first single, “Hold Tight” took only one day to produce and it was released anonymously on Soundcloud. The track gained little attention but the new duo pushed on.
Eventually Jordan and Majid produced their first EP, Afterhours. It was released on August 22, 2013 under the group name ‘Good People’ on Soundcloud. The eight-track EP featured their first track and single “Hold Tight”. Songs on the EP range from a chill dance vibe to atmospheric pop music. Drake’s producer at the time, Noah Shebib was impressed with the EP and signed the duo to his OVO Sound label.
Majid Jordan gained the attention of the masses when they were credited with co-producing Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”. On July 17, 2014, the duo released the EP A Place Like This. The five-track EP had three lead singles, “A Place Like This,” “Her,” and “Forever”. The duo spent the next year working on their next project. At the end of 2015, their first single “My Love” featuring Drake was released. On February 5, 2016 the duo released their debut studio album, Majid Jordan. The 12-tracks range from upbeat pop music to deep ballads. While the album didn’t hit high on the charts, it garnered more fans for the group.
By April of the following year, the group released their next single “Phases”. In June, Majid Jordan released “One I Want” featuring PartyNextDoor. The two singles hinted at a bigger project in the future. Listeners got that confirmation with the announcement of their next studio album, The Space Between. In September “My Imagination” featuring Dvsn became the third single from the upcoming album. The Space Between was officially released on October 27, 2017. This studio album embraced more of their R&B side while having pop qualities to it. Well into 2018, Majid Jordan traveled for ‘The Space Between Tour’ and in September Majid Jordan released two songs, “All Over You” and “Spirit”.
Majid Jordan has produced music for pop and R&B lovers all around the world. In their short time in the industry, they’ve made an impact with heartfelt songs. This Canadian duo isn’t focusing too much on collaborations. Instead, they are spending more time producing tracks for themselves and some label mates. However, in July 2019, the duo released their latest track “Caught Up” featuring R&B singer Khalid. The song was met with a generally positive reception.
